  4. written before 1920, anticipates later devices, e.g., Polytonality, Polyrhythm,
  5. quarter-tones. Was organist and choirmaster and had business career, his work
  6. being little recognized until his Concord piano sonata was played in 1939 and
  7. his symphony no. 3 in 1946. Works include 5 symphonies, Three Places in New
  8. England for orchestra, and songs.
